All thanks to the sudden popularity of the current reality TV show called “Dancing with the Stars”, the sale of Ballroom dancing shoes has increased. The interesting fact to note is that besides an increase in the sale of women’s dancing shoes, there has also been a more than significant increase in the sale of men’s ballroom dancing shoes!! Considering that dancing has been primarily a female dominated field, its popularity among males is surprising.
So if you’re a man and you’ve taken to ballroom dancing, first of all go find a mirror, stand in front of it and hail! Men ballroom dancers are one of the sexiest creatures on the planet. Be proud of yourself! Secondly, find the right pair of men’s ballroom dance shoes. Be sure that you start looking for MEN’s shoes in particular because if you do a general “dancing shoes” search, you’re more likely to find women’s dancing shoes!
Ballroom dancing shoes for men
Now, having taken up ballroom dancing, and before going for a shoe search, make sure you know the difference between a women’s dancing shoes and a men’s ballroom dance shoes. Men’s shoes are the typical black laced up Oxfords with 5 eyes and a plain and flat heel for standard dancing. Look out for dancing shoes with suede soles as suede provided the right amount of grip and slide. Leather soles make the dancer more prone to slipping and rubber soles are very sticky and can cause injury to the dancers. So go for a suede sole. Next, make sure the dancing shoe you choose is very flexible and lightweight as ballroom dancing is very swift and as a man lifts a woman in fast swinging steps, a comfortable and light shoe works wonders!
As all men’s ballroom dance shoes are covered from the toe, a perfect fit is a must. The shoe should not be toe crushing and neither should it be loose. If the shoe is really tight, comfort is lost and if the shoe is loose, grip is lost. So try multiple shoes and then only come to a final decision.
Latin ballroom dance shoes
Men’s ballroom dance shoes are not as varied as women’s dance shoes. There are just two simple categories for dancing shoes for men, standard ballroom dancing shoes and Latin ballroom dancing shoes. The only difference that lies between the two is that the Latin ballroom dancing shoes have a heel of 1 or 2 inches, not a pointed and elevated heel but a rather flat and full heel while the standard ballroom dancing shoes are absolutely flat.
Maintenance
Considering that men are comparatively low on maintenance than women, it is very essential for men to handle their ballroom dancing shoes very carefully. As men’s ballroom dance shoes are pretty much similar to their office shoes, it’s very much possible that they wear dancing shoes to office daily. Don’t do that. Never wear your dancing shoes for other purposes. Wrap them up in a box and save their novelty only for performances and dance practices.
